Donors: Reusing IT takes donated computer equipment from individuals and from organisations which can supply large numbers of PCs e.g. we work with Aberdeen University and councils including Scottish Borders and City of Edinburgh and NHS Lothian.
We also receive fantastic support through donated computers from many Scottish independent schools such as Dundee High, Fettes, St. Aloysius, Jordanhill, St. George’s School for Girls, Erskines Stewart’s Melville Schools and George Watson’s College. This enables these schools to ensure that their old computers are re-used. At the same time they receive educational information on the work that we do and the eventual end point of the donated computers.
We are always really keen to talk to new partners so if you are looking for new ways to give old computers a longer, happier and more purposeful life then talk to us!
Refurbishing: Other partners include Support in Mind, a Dumfries-based mental health charity, whose adult trainees take on some of the reprocessing work (20 PCs a month). In this way, an item of ‘waste’ becomes a source of work, experience and wellbeing in Scotland, and ultimately a valuable educational tool in Scotland or in Africa.
Other partners are like-minded organisations such as Computers for Africa, Pass IT On Computers and Computer Aid International.
Data destruction: Kroll Ontrack are a leading data recovery and destruction organisation.
Compliance: Reusing IT is a charity registered in Scotland (SC037716)) and we are governed by a board of trustees who have overall responsibility for the charity’s work. We submit annual returns to OSCR (the Office of the Scottish Charities Regulator).
We are registered with SEPA (Scottish Environment Protection Agency) WML/XC/1095902 for repair and refurbishment of WEEE (Waste Electronic and Electrical Equipment) at a secure place. We also have a Waste Carriers Licence (PCT-E-120) registered in 2007. More information on Waste Compliance
We are also authorised Microsoft refurbishers, which allows us to install genuine Microsoft software licences on all refurbished PCs, post-data destruction.
